Fireworks
are Illegal and Dangerous |
|
|
Police Chief
Robert Flannelly
wishes to remind residents of the hazardous nature of fireworks. Almost every
year over 100 known accidents involving the discharge of fireworks are reported
in the state of New Jersey. Emergency rooms have treated children and adults for
burns, eye injuries, lacerations, and even amputations caused by fireworks. In
addition to being dangerous, fireworks are illegal in the state of New Jersey.
Anyone who possesses or discharges fireworks can be fined up to $500 and/or
sentenced to up to six months in jail. Fireworks include novelty items, such as
“cigarette loads”, “smoke grenades”, “snaps and pops”, “sparklers”, etc. The
fireworks laws are enforced by the Rochelle Park Police Department.
Chief
Flannelly
stresses public cooperation in observing the fireworks laws so that all seasons,
especially the summer, will be both enjoyable and safe.
